There is a reason why Oprah never tires of saying that everyone has a story. Tell me yours, and I'll turn it into the best sales pitch this side of heaven.
Today's customers are nobody's fools. But they will listen to those who know how to grab their attention. If they feel at home with you, if they feel that you are speaking to them rather than at them, you will have them trust you. Trust is an imortant commodity. When they trust you, they will want to buy from you.
Let's face it. We are people. We need things. We want things. But at times we are skeptical. We are tired of all the BS that's coming at us all the time. From everywhere. From the radio. From the TV. From the morning paper - with all its ads. From our favorite magazines - with all their ads. From endless commercials. From interminable infomercials.
Until we no longer know which end is up.
And that's when you need someone in your corner to tell your story. Straight! No BS. Just the facts of the case!
The secret weapon to a great story is threefold: you want your words to have that special emotional impact. The words that represent you need to sound like you mean business. You can call this aspect PASSION!
You need your customers to feel that you are going to deliver what they need and want. You can call this aspect PROMISE!
You need for your customers to realize that they can trust you. That your words are truthful. You can call this aspect PROOF!
It's really as simple as that. I can deliver your words with passion and promise and proof. Here is a quick example:
Imagine that you are selling a book on diet and nutrition. You lay out the facts. You list the benefits of your book. Your customer is going to look younger and feel better. Because she will be healthier.
That's great. But is it enough? What you really need is for her to see herself as a new person. She needs to see herself turning heads at the beach in her brand new bikini!
You need to make her feel that she is already a new person who can be proud of herself. Proud for having had the good sense to buy your book. Your book on diet and nutrition is suddenly more than just another book on diet and nutrition. Yes, the whole is now greater than the sum of its parts.
What's the difference? The facts haven't changed. It's how you make your customer feel about who she is that has changed. And changed for the better.
If you use the right words, she will sense that she is getting what she wants - and not just what she needs. Wants trump needs. People buy because they feel an emotional pull to want to have what you offer them. Then they need to have a logical justification for their decision. One that will annihilate the dreaded buyer's remorse before it can rear its ugly head.
If you tell her why she is going to be a new person, why her friends will wonder about her new glow, and why her friends will want to know how she did what she did to make her look so good, you have a winner on your hands. It's all in the story that tells her about what your book on diet and nutrition can and will do for her.
What she wants to know is simply this: what's really in it for her?
Proven Facts Will Always Impress Them, But Compelling Stories Will Make Them Buy!
Remember this simple truth: all copywriters are NOT created equal!
Let's face it, you want a writer because you have something to sell - whether a product or a service. And you want the right words to move your potential customers to open up their wallets. To punch in those credit card numbers. To get to their PayPal account to send you their money.
I am not the cheapest. But I am the best. I know what I am talking about.
